Detailed description of the technology of charcoal kiln of «EURO» series

Charcoal kiln CK «EURO» was developed by GreenPower Company in 2007, the first experimental kiln was manufactured in 2008.

In 2009, the first serial charcoal kiln CK-1 «EURO» was manufactured on GreenPower's production base.

In 2013 the charcoal kiln CK-2 «EURO» was developed and manufactured. In it at the first time appeared mechanical drives of controls.

In 2015 the charcoal kiln CK-3 «EURO» was put into series production. The working space used for operating the kiln was optimized.

In 2016 the charcoal kiln CK-4 EURO  was developed and put into series. The basic version included an enlarged furnace chamber and an extended drying/pyrolysis chamber.

The main idea in the development of a charcoal kiln "EURO" was to reduce the number of operations in the "right" production of charcoal. As you know, the production of charcoal is a technological scheme, each stage of which is very important:

  1. Preparation of raw material. To optimize the drying and pyrolysis processes of raw material, it is necessary to crush (cut, split) the wood, that ensures a uniform drying/pyrolysis of the raw material.
  2. Loading of raw material into the kiln. The raw material is loaded into the chamber, the position of the raw material in the kiln is important.
  3. Drying of raw material. The smooth heating of raw material is very important - it ensures the maximum qualitative and quantitative indicators of charcoal. In classical technologies, a clear separation of the drying process from the pyrolysis process is virtually impossible.
  4. Pyrolysis of raw material. When the drying process is completed, the main process "pyrolysis" takes place - the process of carbonization of raw materials.
  5. Calcination of raw material. If a high content of non-volatile carbon is required, it is necessary to perform calcination of raw materials - removal of residues of volatile carbon. In classical technologies, this process is virtually impossible to carry out.
  6. Charcoal cooling. When the "pyrolysis" process is completed, it is necessary to cool the raw materials to a temperature at which the charcoal will not ignite in order to unload it.
  7. Unloading of the charcoal. It is carried out manually from the kiln, usually using charcoal fork.
  8. Stabilization of the charcoal. A very important process, which is abused by many charcoal burners, and is the interaction of charcoal with atmospheric air.
  9. Packing of the charcoal. The actual loading of the charcoal into the packaging of the consumer.

While developing the technology of the charcoal kiln "EURO", we took into account all these processes and optimized them in our technological scheme.

The principle of the patented technology of charcoal kilns such as "EURO"

Loading of raw materials is carried out in "revolving" trolleys outside the kiln, i.е. in the place provided on the working site, the transfer and loading of the trolleys is carried out using special "platforms" and the electric winch. The kiln consists of two drying and pyrolysis chambers and a furnace. Each of the chambers can work both in the "drying" and "pyrolysis" modes. The process is being maintained by burning the pyrolysis gas released during the process. Firstly the heat carrier is supplied to the chamber with the "pyrolysis" mode, then - "drying". If it is necessary, a "charcoal calcination" is carried out in the chamber. Cooling, stabilization and unloading of charcoal are carried out outside the chamber.

We do not move raw materials from the drying chamber to the pyrolysis chamber, we move the process, while the loading of the raw material, cooling, stabilization and unloading of charcoal takes place outside the kiln. This ensures high productivity, with relatively small kiln dimensions and low production costs. With the help of special dampers, we set the desired mode in the chamber: "DRYING" or "PYROLYSIS", while all the processes are mechanized and automated.
